Silk & Fibreglass (also linen).
Also known as 'Backscratchers' these extensions are pieces of silk, fibreglass or linen that have been cut to a desired shape and glued over the natural nail or over the natural nail and artificial tip extension. The fabric is then coated with more glue (to build up strength) or with a "resin". Resin is a thick version of glue and because resin is thick it takes a very long time to dry. It needs something to accelerate the drying time so an accelerator is used (also called an activator). This comes in the form of a liquid that is sprayed as a fine mist over the resin coated nails. We only use Silk as it is the the most natural-looking, linen is the strongest but most 'fake looking' and fibreglass sits between the two. We choose not to use fibreglass as it is only slightly harder wearing than Silk. These nail extensions are often too delicate for those with an active lifestyle so not the right choice for everyone.
